Creating a Brighter Future for Indians
Job Opportunities on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation
Job Opportunities
We found out that the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes determined that jobs, contracts, and subcontracts in the private sector or near the Fort Peck Indian Reservation are an important resource for the tribal people. The Fort Peck Tribal Government has the inherent sovereign power to pass laws in order to protect the interests, health, and general welfare of the tribal people.
Reducing Unemployment
The Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board discovered that the Fort Peck Tribes have a compelling interest in adopting Tribal Employment Rights Office (TERO) to combat the high rate of unemployment in the reservation and for the purposes set forth in our TERO Ordinance.
Main Functions of the Tribal Employment Rights Office (TERO)
- TERO manages the Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance that provides forTribal Preference in employment, contracting, and subcontracting conducted on the Fort Peck Reservation.
TERO organizes the certification of local or Tribal contractors, negotiates employer compliance plans, as well as offers orientation, apprenticeship program, cooperative human resource agreements, and work-related training.
- TERO also represents the local EEOC or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
